M.A.D.3, VINCENT CALABRESE’S NEW CHAPTER
At 82, Vincent Calabrese continues to do what he has done throughout much of his career, questioning how a watch should work. M.A.D.Editions now revisits one of his most distinctive ideas with the M.A.D.3 Vincent Calabrese, a reinterpretation of his historic Baladin.
Calabrese is a key figure in independent watchmaking. He co-founded the AHCI with Svend Andersen in 1985, created the celebrated Golden Bridge for Corum and developed dozens of mechanical solutions, accumulating more than 40 patents throughout his career.
The M.A.D.3 builds on one of those ideas. Calabrese was never satisfied with the abrupt transition of traditional jumping hours. With the Baladin, he imagined a different display, where the hour travels progressively across the dial while the minutes continue to advance. M.A.D.Editions preserved that principle while completely redesigning the module to make it more reliable for larger-scale production.

The mechanism is built on a La Joux-Perret G111 automatic caliber, specially optimized for the complication, with a 55-hour power reserve. Its 40 mm stainless steel case was designed by Eric Giroud.
Two versions will be available at launch. The pink edition is reserved for The Tribe and Friends, while the blue edition will be offered through M.A.D.Editions’ usual raffle system. More than half a century after beginning his career, Calabrese is putting one of his ideas back into circulation. This time, for a new generation.
