Marie-Laure Cérède to Lead Chanel’s Next Chapter in Jewelry

Chanel has announced the appointment of Marie-Laure Cérède as the new Director of its Jewelry Creation Studio. In this role, she will oversee all Fine Jewelry and High Jewelry creations for the Maison, working closely with teams in Paris and Geneva. She is set to join Chanel in October 2026.

The appointment represents one of the most significant leadership moves in the jewelry world this year. Cérède arrives at Chanel after building a distinguished career at some of the industry’s most respected maisons, earning recognition for creations that combine artistic vision, craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of gemstones.

Her career began at Cartier before she moved to Harry Winston, where she took charge of the artistic direction of both jewelry and watchmaking. In 2016, she returned to Cartier as Creative Director of Jewelry and Watchmaking, a position she held for nearly a decade.

Born and raised in Libreville, Gabon, Cérède often highlights the influence that nature, color, and different cultures had on her from an early age. Those experiences helped shape a creative perspective that has become one of the defining characteristics of her work and a constant source of inspiration throughout her career.

“I am honoured and moved to join Chanel,” Cérède said following the announcement. She described the Maison as a place of singular cultural influence, praising its ability to challenge convention, redefine femininity, and express modernity through creativity and design.

Chanel executives also expressed strong confidence in her arrival. Frédéric Grangié, President of Watches & Fine Jewelry, emphasized her creative approach, gemological expertise, and ability to bring a fresh perspective to the codes that define Chanel’s jewelry universe. Alain Wertheimer and Leena Nair described her as one of the most talented and accomplished creative directors of her generation.

While it remains too early to know what her first collections for Chanel will look like, her appointment signals an important new phase for the Maison. At a time when High Jewelry continues to play an increasingly prominent role within the luxury industry, Chanel has placed one of the sector’s most respected creative figures at the helm of its jewelry studio. With experience spanning several of the industry’s leading names, Marie-Laure Cérède now takes on the challenge of shaping the future of Chanel jewelry.
