THE NEW OMEGA SPEEDMASTER 38 GETS CLOSER THAN EVER TO THE MOONWATCH
OMEGA has renewed its Speedmaster 38 mm collection with seven new references and a very clear aesthetic direction: bringing the compact model closer to the design codes of the legendary Moonwatch. It’s a move the brand itself acknowledges, and one that significantly changes the character of the collection.
The differences are immediately noticeable. The distinctive oval subdials of the previous generation have been replaced by circular counters, the dial features less text, and the bezel now incorporates the historic “Dot Over Ninety.” There is also a new five-link bracelet inspired by the current Moonwatch.
The collection includes three stainless steel versions, two two-tone configurations, and two models with bezels set with 52 diamonds. But one reference stands out from the rest: the stainless steel model with a black dial, the only one of the seven to do without a date window. It is also the version that takes the visual connection with the Moonwatch the furthest and, given its proportions and configuration, inevitably brings to mind the much-loved Speedmaster Reduced.

Inside, the six versions with a date retain the automatic OMEGA 3330 caliber, while the black model is powered by the 3332. Both offer a 52-hour power reserve. The case remains 38 mm in diameter, a size that continues to be one of the collection’s defining features.
We think the redesign is a success. The Speedmaster 38 retains its own personality while gaining a cleaner, more recognizable look within one of OMEGA’s most important families. Of all the new releases, our choice is clear: the black no-date version. It will probably be the one that gets the most attention from enthusiasts who have always wanted a Speedmaster in more compact dimensions.
